So, yet another person who was held in high esteem by his
supporters has thrown ‘trust’ back in their faces. It’s taken 10 years, during
which time he lied, and lied and lied over what was a relatively minor offence,
but ‘justice’ has finally caught up with him and he is now been sentenced to 8
months in prison.
Consequently, now the precedent has been set that politicians
who tell lies, can, if found guilty, be jailed for it, it will be interesting
to see if the judiciary finds time to re-interview another; even more senior
politician, who in September 2002 told MPs, "It (the intelligence service)
concludes that Iraq has chemical and biological weapons, that Saddam has
continued to produce them, that he has existing and active military plans for
the use of chemical and biological weapons, which could be activated within 45
minutes!"
