"I'm innocent, er, no I mean guilty!" |
If ever you were in doubt that lying, along with a capacity
for backbiting, obfuscation, and double-dealing, are, in fact, actual job
qualifications for politicians, then doubt no more!
Former cabinet minister Chris Huhne has changed his mind
from not guilty and now pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice over
claims his ex-wife Vicky Pryce took speeding points for him a decade ago.
The former Secretary for Energy and Climate Change resigned
his Cabinet seat 11 months ago in order to defend himself against the charges. He
initially pleaded his innocence, saying: "I'm innocent of these charges
and I intend to fight this."
So there you have it. Mr Huhne – who throughout this police investigation has
always maintained his innocence – has now pleaded guilty, which ironically has
finally made him an honest ex-politician!
One can only hope that the prison authorities heat his
prison cell by connecting the central heating system to the nearest windmill.
