"It's not fair! They're messing with our version of democracy!" |
How much
longer can Cllr John Taylor’s alleged correspondence be published verbatim and go unchallenged by journo’s and readers?
Here is a
shining example of a career councillor, who through the shear manipulation of
the Labour councils voting system; reveals, when analyzed, that he and his
cohorts have used the so called ‘democratic’ electoral system to their own
maximum political advantage over the last 30 years, in such a cruel and manipulative
way.
And now, finding that the current government are reassigning
ward/borough boundaries, he gets on his soapbox and accuses them of ‘messing about with our democratic
system’ - claiming ‘they are out of control!’
The sad truth is, that as it stands, our local council election
system has merely provided comfortable places for some councillors to rest their bums for
life, whilst suckling on the public tit.
Ideally, given our current situation, we need people to
enter local government with a view of neither political left or right, just
some plain bloody common sense for a change, who’ll work towards the betterment
of the borough and most important, all its people.
I read the self same epistle.
ReplyDelete"Messing about with our democratic system". There has been no bigger scandal in our system than the introduction of widespread postal voting. Introduced on this scale from, (if I recall correctly 2001), which happens to coincide nicely with a period of Labour government.
I simply cannot believe that this hasn't been challenged to a greater degree. It is wide open to fraud on an industrial scale - Tower Hamlets is a clear example. But closer to home our lords and masters on Tameside Council use it as well. And if I'm correct the postal votes are counted well before the close of poll - indeed as and when they arrive. This simply cannot be right - a knowledge of the postal vote as and when it progresses can only skew campaigning. It's a scandal.
So I'm afraid that those in the labour party who are now upset at proposed boundary changes need to look themselves in the mirror and question just how far the postal vote system has favoured them in the last 15 years.
I stopped buying the Tameside Reporter ages ago when the views of Mr and Mrs Bloggs were cast aside to make room for the soapboxes of certain councillors and assorted political commentators and big-wigs.
ReplyDeleteSadly, my home town of Ashton doesn't have a forum where the average citizen without access to the internet can express his or her views. Try mentioning that to the Tameside Reporter and the reply you get is the same as when trying to contact the Ashton Town Team on their web site, i.e. nowt.
At the recent Oldham West by-election I understand some of the postal vote boxes, when tipped out, were almost 100% Labour.
ReplyDeleteThis potentially fraudulent and totally unnecessary method of voting is a disgrace to a civilised country and should be scrapped.
who is this geriatic looking chap again?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that what is more appropriate here is not Hitchens's razor -"What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence" but Hanlon's razor - "never assume bad intentions when assuming stupidity is enough."
