COUNCIL TO CHANGE ITS NAME TO ‘TIMESIDE’

Welcome to Timeside where time literarily fly's!
Was it really any great surprise that Tameside's Council chiefs have been embarrassed once again after two of the boroughs Town Hall clocks were put forward an hour, instead of back?

It would be laughable if it was not so tragic!

Not for the first time the local council became a laughing stock as ‘social media’ burst into life over the weekend as the ‘blunder was shared with the nation.

According to the article in the Manchester Evening News, Town Hall leader, Kieran Quinn said he was unaware of the issue until contacted by the M.E.N. and that bosses would get the problem fixed as soon as possible. Although at 11.30am today the clock on Hyde Town Hall was displaying 1.30pm!

The report also said that an ‘outside firm’ is responsible for the error!

Its a shame the council didn't contract the rise in council tax to the same 'outside firm' - who knows, we might now be paying 8% less!

Could it be that Tameside council bosses are now far too busy choosing the wall coverings and office furniture for their new ivory tower, that they've had to employ an ‘outside firm’ to wind-up their timepieces?

Is this the same ‘forward thinking’ council who have spent £3million transforming the old Ashton Baths into a start-up hub offering high tech superfast fibre broadband, when basic timekeeping evades them?

So, what’s next for these ‘forward thinking’ council managers? Perhaps contracting another ‘outside firm’ to assist them in tying their own shoelaces?

I find it ironic that the council have become so afraid of wind-ups that they’ve had to employ a specialist company to do it for them!

Why do we vote for these people?

  1. Yet again though, when blunders are highlighted to this forward thinking council, they never choose to admit they are at fault. "Its the contractors, not us".
Bit like the Council's policy of blaming Central Government for all the current problems they have caused, stating that its due to the Government's cutbacks.
Why not just a straight admission.?
What the Council do not realise is, that its fine to keep blaming the contractors for all their failings,"lets contract everything out". But they do have to contend with vicarious liability eventually, where the buck stops with them.
Wish the electorate would turn the clocks back.

  2. Given this mistake is it to much to hope that the Council refuse to pay the contractor? Or alternatively just pay up -after all the Council Tax payer's pocket is bottomless.

It's quite clear that our lords and masters (sic) are incapable of managing a contractual relationship. Getting into bed with Carillion is adequate testimony to this. THe Council and thereby us have been taken for a ride by this outfit.

On other matters has there been a pronouncement about the Orgreave decision from the Council. I note that Rayner was vociferous about it, but singularly silent about the Rotherham abuse and no doubt complicit in the selection of Vaz for the Justice Committee, which makes an absolute mockery of the term Honourable Member

  3. The contractor like everything else now at Tameside council, is Carillion". You will probably find that the council has probably had to pay them again to come back and change the clocks. It's about time (pun inteded) someone started to ask why so much of tameside tax money goes straight to this company with no competition from anyone else. I'd love to see what the tender was for the new glass palace in Ashton, and how Carillion were the winners.
