According to a warning from the Defence Select Committee
Chairman, James Arbuthnot MP-
“…Unless
we have a really vigorous approach to defending against the sort of cyber-attacks
that are developing at a rather quick rate day by day, minute by minute, second
by second, unless we have a really vigorous approach we are at risk of our
armed forces as well as the whole of the rest of the government infrastructure
being compromised."
What baffles me when we hear pronouncements like this, aired
on international, 24 hour news stations, is why are we announcing to potential
cyber-attackers that the country is vulnerable to an all-out, concentrated
attack?
Preparing to defend the nation in the run-up to the Battle
of Britain, would the British Government under Churchill have announced that the
iconic and much feared Spitfire was beset by production problems and political doubts?
If the same fixation with supplying news agencies with information
24-7 was happening then, our finest hour
would have been our darkest!
