In light of the current economic crisis and its impact upon the council, Tameside bosses ‘flew a kite’ on the front page of last week’s Advertiser saying ‘They could move into a brand new building if they demolished their old one.
Not content with spending £36,000 building a virtual town
hall two years ago, council chiefs now advocate spending £2million to demolish
their real council offices and spend a further £10.5million building a brand
spanking new one!
By pure coincidence, on page two, there was yet another
disgruntled tenant whinging about looking for better resources and buildings
for their students; closer to the town centre.
That being the case, surely it’s not beyond the wit of man
to move the council out to a new, purpose build, and sell/rent the existing
council offices to the College, to offset the cost of their new empire, with Wilkinson’s moving across the square to
the soon to be vacant Marks & Spencer’s.
New Charter could then sweep in and purchase the vacant Beaufort Road
College, demolish it at their own cost and build much needed social housing.
This would then save us all money!
